(Nov. 20, 2003) in Buffalo General Hospital.
A Jamestown resident since 2001, she was born Aug. 24, 1978, in Dunkirk, the
daughter of John Hagle and Joyce Bohneberg Holland.
A Westfield resident most of her life, she attended St. Mary's School for
the Deaf in Buffalo. She was a sociable, loving person, who enjoyed her
family and friends.
Besides her father of Ripley and her mother of Westfield, she is survived by
her stepfather, Lyle Holland ''Daddy'' of Westfield; five sisters: ; and a
brother, Internment will be in the East Ripley Cemetery, Ripley. (edited

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He was a prisoner of war.
He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company G, 72d New York
Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on May 5 at
Williamsburg and Bristol Station and August 27-30, 1862 at Manassas,
Virginia. His citation reads "At Williamsburg, Va., voluntarily carried a
severely wounded comrade off the field in the face of a large force of the
enemy; in doing so was himself severely wounded and taken prisoner.

formerly of North State Street in Ripley, died Monday (Oct. 29, 2001) in
Hamot Medical Center. She was born June 17, 1916, in Stedman, a daughter of
the late Clarence and Rose King Phillips.
She is survived by three sons: Robert, Stanley and Dennis, all of Ripley;
two daughters: Delores Morrow of Racine, Wisc., and Janet Rearick of
Sinclairville; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur, who died Dec. 24, 2000, and with
whom she had celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in April, 2000; a
sister, Nellie Swan of Lake Worth, Fla., who died June 25, 1987.

ROSEVILLE, Calif. - Richard B. Hoag, 82, of Roseville, formerly of Ripley,
died Wednesday (Dec. 4, 2002) in Roseville.
He was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Ripley, the son of Edward and Harriet Button
Hoag.
He was a 1942 graduate of the University of Michigan. He was employed as an
aeronautical engineer by Northrup, where his work included the first flying
wing, the lunar decent engine and the stealth fighter. He retired at age 72.
The words ascribed to him by his high school classmates will grace his
memorial ''There never was a more gentle man.''
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Hoag; a son, Robert Hoag of
San Diego, Calif.; two daughters: Judy Thwing and Janet Gamboa, of El Dorado
Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren ; and a brother, Ret. Col. Earl Hoag of
California.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert and Russell Hoag.
Burial will be in the East Ripley Cemetery.

*Hazard Wilber Kendall was born in Towanda, Bradford County, Pa., in the
year 1814, and died in Plano, Ill., February 24, 1899. He was married during
the year 1835 to Miss Mary Smith, at Ripley, Chautauqua County, N.Y. His
wife died three years later, leaving one son, Augustus Kendall, now of
Hamlet, Ill. In 1841 he was again united in marriage to Miss Ursula RUSSELL,
(Dau of RODERICK RUSSELL and Laura GOODRICH) of Ripley, N.Y. By this union
two sons and two daughters were born. Three of his children survive
him-Augustus Kendall, Mrs. Laura Jane LULL and Elyzer Webster Kendall; also
an adopted son, Ernest B. Kendall, associated with William Deering & Co.
H.W. Kendall came to the west from Ripley, N.Y., in 1855, locating in
Columbus, Columbia County, Wis., where he remained for two years, removing
from there to Kaneville, Ill., and to Plano in 1862, where he has been a
continuous resident to the time of his death.

1/23/2002 - RIPLEY - Raymond L. Leamer, 88, of N.E. Sherman Road, Ripley,
died Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2002) in the Waters of Westfield. He was born Dec.
15, 1913, in Mahuffy, Pa., a son of John W. and Laura Bell Stall. He moved
to Ripley in his youth and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948. He was
an independent trucker from 1946 to 1952. He also owned and operated a dairy
farm in South Ripley from 1952 until his retirement in 1977. He was a member
of the Ripley Grange and the Dairy League. He enjoyed dealing in cattle and
working on his farm. He is survived by his wife, Myrna Orr Leamer, who he
married June 1, 1935; two sons: Ronald Leamer of Panama and Robert Leamer of
Ripley; two daughters: Shirley Bodgley and Jerry Eimers, both of Ashville;
25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and several
great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Aaron Leamer of Cherry Tree, Pa.,
and Quintly Leamer of Ripley; and a sister, Lillian Muir of Florida. He was
preceded in death by a son, Richard Leamer; and a daughter, Margaret Jane
Houser; nine brothers: Warren, James, Alden, Harold, Cecil, John, Thomas,

[NOTE:  Oliver LOOMIS, Sr. is buried in East Ripley Cemetery, along with other family members.  There's a note there stating this Oliver and his wife Hannah Baird/Beard were found in Ashtabula Co., OH.  These are a different Oliver and wife.  Oliver LOOMIS Sr. never left Chautauqua Co., NY.  A couple of Oliver and Hannah's children had moved to Laporte Co., IN.

Son of Elisha MARVIN and Elizabeth SELDEN, brother of Elihu, was born in
Lyme, New London CT, May 9, 1786. One of 10 children;
In 1822 he was elected to Congress, and twice re-elected. He there became a
personal friend of Henry CLAY, then speaker of the house.
During the War of 1812, he held a Lieutenancy in the state militia, and went
to Rochester when an attack on that place was apprehended. After he held the
offices of colonel, brigadier general, and major general. After his last
congressional term, he devoted much time to mechanical improvements which he
invented and patented. He married in 1818 to Mary WHALLEY. and in June 19,
1819, their only child,
born 19 June, 1819, in Canandaigua, Ontario co., N. Y.; died 25 Dec., 1896,
in Erie, Erie co., Pa.; married 25 May,
1847, in Ripley, Chautauqua co., N. Y., Sarah Wilson, daughter of John Bell
and Nancy (Wilson) Dinsmore, born 8 March, 1824,(*) in Ripley, who survives
him and resides (1903) in Erie.
