  12/20/2004 - WESTFIELD - Russell Gordon Callahan, 88, of Cass St., formerly of Wyoming, Mich., died Saturday (Dec. 18,
  2004) in the Waters of Westfield  He was born Feb. 19, 1916, in Grand Rapids, Mich, the son of Bernard Callahan and Grace
  Way Callahan. A Westfield resident since 2000, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and attained the rank of aiation
  chief metalsmith. He was a graduate of Lee high School of Grand Rapids, and Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo,
  Mich., with a degree in education. Interment will be in Rosedale Memorial Gardens, Grand Rapids.
  CAMERON  Howard F.
  2/19/2008 - FREWSBURG — Rev. Howard F. Cameron, pastor emeritus, 85, of 470 Ivory Road, died on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008.
    He was born April 18, 1922, in Jamestown, the son of Robert and Alice Myers Cameron. In 1942, Howard enlisted in the U.S.
  Navy medical corp. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg, NY.

   Harry E. Sr. & Marion Lawton Camp. A veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Manlius

  CAPPA  Carl M.
  5/12/2001 -  Carl M. Cappa, 78, of 17 Evelyn Drive, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday (May 12, 2001) in his home. A lifelong area
  resident, he was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Jamestown, a son of Ross M. Cappa and Sarah Mazzurco Gullotti. He was a graduate
   of Jamestown High School, Class of 1941, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. Entombment will
  be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum.
  CAPRON  Lee H.
  Lee H. Capron, 88, of 4133 Mead Road, died at 11:05 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 28, 2004) in the home of his son in Sebring, Fla. An
  area resident most of his life, he was born Nov. 18, 1915, in Sugar Grove, Pa., the son of Robert and Edna Butler Capron. He
  was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II as a minesweeper in the Mediterranean.  Burial will be in the
  Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  CARDONE  William P.
  William Peter Cardone was called home to the Lord at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday (April 23, 2008) at the WCA Hospital. He was born
   in Jamestown on July 14, 1919, the son of the late Ralph and Antonina Sirrianne Cardone. William served with the U.S. Army
  during World War II and served in the North Apennines and earned the Good Conduct, World War II Victory and European
  African Middle Eastern Service medals. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.
  CARLEIN  Jabez L.
  5/8/2006 - Jabez L. ‘‘JB’’ Carlein, 90, of 110 W. Third St., Jamestown, formerly of 4410 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, died at
  8:30 a.m. Sunday (May 7, 2006) in the Olean General Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of the Jamestown area, where he
  was born Dec. 8, 1915, a son of Carl and Hannah Jenson Carlein. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving with the
  Seabees during World War II in Guam. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  CARLSON  Arthur G.
  11/10/2007 - Arthur G. Carlson, 84, of Lutheran Retirement Home and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 35 Gifford Ave.,
  Lakewood, died at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, in the nursing home. A native of Jamestown, he was born Nov. 27,
  1922, the son of Arthur W. and Bertha Sandquist Carlson. He was a 1941 graduate of Lakewood High School and served in
  the Navy SEABEES from Aug. 23, 1943, until his discharge March 27, 1946. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery,
  CARLSON  C. Phillip
  4/17/2003 - ATLANTA - C. Philip Carlson, 89, of 4880 Windwood Drive, died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday (March 25, 2003) in his
  home. An Atlanta resident since 1980, he was born Aug. 28, 1913, in Jamestown, the son of Carl Siegfried and Edith Alfield
  Erickson Carlson. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served as a captain from 1942 to 1975, including aboard the USS Terry in
  1945 as a medical officer. Burial Sunset Hill
  CARLSON  C. Reynold
  5/16/2007 - C. Reynold Carlson, 89, of 232 Delaware Ave. died at 4:20 p.m. Monday (May 14, 2007) in the Heritage Green
  Health Care Center. A lifelong area resident, he was born June 5, 1917, in Jamestown, a son of the late Edward L. and Ebba
  Johnson Carlson. He was a graduate of Jamestown High School. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during
  World War II. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.
  CARLSON  Carl L.
  3/31/2004 - Carl L. Carlson, 82, of the Lutheran Retirement Home, formerly of 28 Elmwood Ave., W.E., died at 4:43 p.m.
  Thursday (Jan. 29, 2004) in WCA Hospital. An area resident since coming to the United States at the age of 5, he was born
  July 19, 1921, in Tidersrum, Sweden, the son of Linus G. and Signe Maria Carlson Carlson. He was a 1940 graduate of
  Jamestown High School and attended the University of Cincinnati. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the European
   Theater during World War II from 1943 to 1946. During his tour of duty he earned the American Service Medal, the Good
  Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the European American Middle Eastern Service Medal. He had served with
  the 561st Ordinance Heavy Maintenance Company and was discharged as a Technician Fifth Grade. Burial, Sunset Hill
  CARLSON  Eric E.
  5/11/2006 - Eric Elwood Carlson, 87, of 1914 Winch Road, Lakewood, died at 4:17 p.m. Tuesday (May 9, 2006) in WCA
  Hospital. He was born Jan. 7, 1919, in Jamestown, a son of Eric and Thelma Swanson Carlson. He was a 1938 graduate of
  Celoron High School, and attended Alfred Agricultural and Technical College for one year. He was a World War II veteran of
  the U.S. Seebees. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

  11/16/2007 - Gordon H. Carlson, 93, of Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing, formerly of 140 Aldren Ave,
  Jamestown, Loyalton of Lakewood, 24 Hunt Rd and Panama–Stedman Road, died at 10:15 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 15, 2007)
  in the nursing home. A native of Jamestown he was born Jan. 20, 1914, the son of Carl and Henny Holmgren Carlson. He
  attended Celoron High School and served in the US Navy during World War II. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery,
  CARLSON  O. William
  Bemus Point: O. William Carlson Town of Ellery Police Chief died at 5 a.m. today at his home here in Lakeside Drive. He was
  born Nov. 1 1901 at Port Allegany Pa. the son of Carl A. and Ellen Dahlquist Carlson. He was in World War II 604th Technical
  School Squadron St. Petersburg Fla. He was inducted Apr. 13 1941 and received basic training at Keesler Field Miss.  Burial
  will be in Bemus Point Cemetery  Bemus Point NY.

  3/18/2006 - Paul R. Carlson Jr., 82, of 30 Osborne St., died at 2:39 a.m. Tuesday (March 14, 2006) in WCA Hospital.  A lifelong
  area resident, he was born Oct. 15, 1923, in Jamestown, a son of the late Paul R. and Martha Swanson Carlson Sr. He
  attended Jamestown schools, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1941, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during
  World War II.A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home.

  2/20/2007 - Robert E. Carlson, 94, of 802 Lakeview Ave., died at 5:30 a.m. Monday (Feb. 19, 2007) in Heritage Green Health
  Care Center. He was born Sept. 29, 1912, in Jamestown, the son of Edward and Ebba Johnson Carlson. He was a 1933
  graduate of Jamestown High School. Mr. Carlson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Italy. He received
   the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Burial will
  be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
  CARLSON  Robert H. Sr.
  9/12/2007 - Robert Helmer Carlson Sr., 81, of Inverness, Fla., died Friday, Sept 7, 2007, at the Avante at Inverness Nursing
  Home under the care of Hernando-Pasco Hospice. Born Dec. 30, 1925, to Helmer and Luella (Coan) Carlson, he moved to
  Inverness in 1997 from his native Jamestown, NY. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, having been honorably
  discharged as a lieutenant. He was a member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Inverness, American Legion Post No. 155
  of Crystal River and the Woodcarving Club. He enjoyed playing golf and wood-working.  Internment will be at the Florida
  National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with full military honors.
  CARLSON  Robert W.
  8/13/2006 - Robert W. Carlson, 84, of 11114 Wine Palm Rd, Ft. Myers, Fla. and Sunset Bay, Bemus Point, formerly of Sanibel
  Island, Fla., died on Thursday (August 10, 2006) in Hope Hospice, Ft. Myers.A Jamestown resident, he was born December
  14, 1921, in Kane, Pa., the son of Ethel J. Carlson Youngren.Mr. Carlson attended school in Kane until his family moved to
  Jamestown, where he attended Rogers St. School, Jefferson Jr. High School and graduated from Jamestown High School in
  June 1940.  Upon graduation from High School, Mr. Carlson joined the National Guard on Porter Avenue, training at that location
   until the National Guard was mobilized and was sent to Fort Dix, N.J.  He applied and was accepted into pilot training school at
   the time of the outbreak of World War II and was transferred back into the infantry in the light weapons NCO. He was sent to
  Germany where he served in the 357th Infantry Division until the war ended. He received for his valor in service the Bronze
  Star Metal, with an Oak Leaf Cluster, and was also very proud of the fact that General George Patton pinned his first Bronze
  Star, asking ‘‘Are you scared soldier?" with his reply, ‘‘Yes Sir" and the General said ‘‘So am I".  Mr. Carlson earned the
  American Defense Service Metal, Good Conduct Metal, European African Middle Eastern Service Metal and the Purple Heart.
  He was discharged from the service on October 13, 1945. Burial will be in the Bemus Point Cemetery, Bemus Point, NY.
  CARLSTROM  John R.
  11/5/2003 - John R. Carlstrom Jr., 79, of 611 Jefferson St., died Tuesday (Nov. 4, 2003) in the Veteran Administration Hospital,
   Buffalo. A Jamestown native, he was born Jan. 28, 1924, the son of John and Lillie Hultberg Carlstrom. He was a graduate of
   Jamestown High School and the School of Modern Photography in New York City. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S.
  Army, serving from 1943 to 1946. Much of his military service was spent at Walter Reed Medical Center, Washington, after
  being seriously wounded while serving as a rifleman and bazooka man with the 12th regiment ''Eî Company of the Forth
  Infantry. He received many awards and decorations, including expert infantry badge, combat infantry badge, bronze star,
  purple heart, good conduct medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two battle
   stars and World War II Victory Medal. Burial in Soldiers Circle in Lake View Cemetery.
  CARONIA  James J.
  James Joseph Caronia, 83, of 302 Springdale Ave., died Tuesday (Nov. 2, 2004) in his home. He was born May 24, 1921, in
  Jamestown, the son of Dominic and Carmela Petronace Caronia. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Entombment
  will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum, Jamestown, NY.

  Arthur H. Carpenter 72 of Bemus Point died at 12:26 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 12 1995) in WCA Hospital. A lifelong area resident he
   was born Mar. 2 1923 in Jamestown the son of Arthur M. & Maude Hudson Carpenter. He was a veteran of World War II
  serving in the U.S. Army.  Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery  Bemus Point NY.
  CARR  Donald F.
  Donald F. Carr 65 of RD 1 Bemus Point died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 8 1987) in WCA Hospital. He was born June 25 1922
  in Fredonia a son of Morrison and Maude Silleman Carr. Carr served in DarbyÆs First Rangers of U.S. Army Special Forces
  serving in Central Europe Africa Sicily and was a prisoner of war in Germany for 18 months. He entered the Army Oct. 15
  1942 and was discharged Oct. 2 1945.  Burial was in Bemus Point Cemetery  Bemus Point NY.

  1/31/2006 - KENNEDY - Clinton Verle Carver, 88, of Grubb Hill Road, Kennedy, died at 12:06 a.m. Monday (Jan. 30, 2006) in the
   Hamot Medical Center in Erie.  He was born July 26, 1917 in Royal, Neb., the son of Irel Ernest and Rosetta Belle True Carver
  Sr. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII from July 23, 1942 to Nov. 9, 1945 where he received
  the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal
  and Good Conduct Medal. Graveside Funeral and Military services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday (Feb. 3, 2006) in the Oramel
  Cemetery, Oramel, N.Y.

  1/6/2005 - DUNKIRK - Francis W. ''Casey'' Case, 85, died Tuesday (Jan. 4, 2005) in Brooks Memorial Hospital.  He was born
  May 23, 1919, in Fredonia, the son of William and Rose Case. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from
  1942 to 1945 in the European Theater as a first sergeant. Interment will be in Willow Brook Cemetery, Dunkirk.

  1/28/2002 -  Gilbert V. Case, 85, formerly of 77 Berry Road, and who wintered in Florida,  died Monday (Jan. 28, 2002) in
  Brandon Regional Hospital, Florida. A Fredonia resident  most of his  life, he was born Sept. 5, 1916, in Cassadaga, the son of
  James W. and Ruth Drake Cave.  He attended school in Cassadaga and was a veteran of World War II, serving in China,
  Burma,  and India.   Interment will be in Cassadaga Cemetery.

  CASSELMAN  Lawrence O.
  Lawrence O. Casselman 72 of 4903 Meadow Drive died at 4 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 9 1994) in WCA Hospital. A lifelong area
  resident he was born Nov. 21 1921 in the Town of Ellery a son of Irwin and Dorothy Seaburn Casselman. He was a 1940
  graduate of Bemus Point High School and was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran serving in England.Burial will be in
  Bemus Point Cemetery  Bemus Point NY.
  CASTIGLIONE  Anthony S.
  Anthony S. Castiglione, 84, of 22 Delevan Ave., Jamestown, died at home on April 26, 2008. Born in Jamestown on November
  19, 1923, to the late Melchiore and Grazia (Caltagirone) Castiglione, immigrants from Grotte, Sicily, Anthony graduated from
  Jamestown High School in 1941. He served his country in World War II in the European theatre, seeing action in the Ardennes,
  Rhineland and Central European campaigns from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the 84th Division, the famed
  “Railsplitters.” Burial is in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Falconer, NY.
  CATANIA  Thomas F.
  5/6/2005 - Thomas F. Catania Sr., 86, of 476 Front St., died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday (May 5, 2005) in the Select Specialty
  Hospital at Hamot Medical Center.  A Jamestown resident since 1949, he was born March 17, 1919, in Ravenna, Ohio, the son
  of Russell and Josephine Caruso Catania.   He was a 1939 graduate of Dunkirk High School. He was a veteran of World War
  II, serving in the U.S. Army from Feb. 10, 1942, until Dec. 4, 1945, in the European, African and Middle Eastern theatres in North
   Africa, France, Germany, Belgium, Austria and Luxembourg, obtaining the rank of staff sergeant. Burial will be in the Holy
  Sepulchre Cemetery.
  CATCHPOLE  W. Park
  9/18/2007 - W. Park Catchpole, 89, of 416 Lakeview Ave., died at 8:33 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 16, 2007) in WCA Hospital. He was
  born April 2, 1918 in Warren, Pa., the son of William H. and Esther M. Park Catchpole. A 1936 graduate of Jamestown High
  School, he was also a 1940 graduate of Syracuse University and 1949 graduate of the University of Michigan School of Law.
  A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was commissioned as an ensign in 1941. He served in the Pacific Theatre and aboard
   the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Lunga Point until October 1946. He was separated from active duty on Dec.17, 1946, having
  achieved the rank of lieutenant commander and remained active with the U.S. Naval Reserve until Jan. 1, 1967, when he
  transferred to the retired reserve with the rank of commander. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.
  CATTLEY  Marshall E.
  9/13/2005 - Marshall E. Cattley 87 formerly of 2281 Summit Blvd. died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 11 2005) in Heritage Park
  Health Care Center.  A lifelong area resident he was born Sept. 5 1918 in Jamestown the son of Marshall and Elin Erickson
  Cattley Sr. He was a 1935 graduate of Jamestown High School. He had served in the US Army during World War II from March
   13 1942 to Sept. 17 1945 where he participated in the invasion of Normandy and served in the European Theatre receiving
  the Purple Heart Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery Jamestown NY.
  CAVE  James A.
  James A. Cave, 85, of 4750 Berry Road, Fredonia, died at home with his family at his side on May 11, 2008. He was born
  November 19, 1922 in Fredonia to Mabel Armstrong Cave and Arthur P. Cave. A graduate of Fredonia High School, Jim
  attended Ithaca College before entering the Navy in World War II where he held the rank of Ensign and served as a Navy Pilot.
   Burial was private.
  CENTI  Domenic J.
  PJ Obit 5/29/2001  Domenic J. Centi, 84, of 142 Broadhead Ave., died at 5:15 a.m. Monday (May 28, 2001) in his home. A
  lifelong area resident, he was born Aug. 24, 1916, in Jamestown, the son of Sabatino and Christina Vella Centi. He was a
  veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946 in Central Europe and Northern France. Burial will be in Mt.
   Olivet Cemetery, Falconer, NY.
  CHABE  Alexander
  Dr. Alexander M. Chabe, 81, of Fredonia died Tuesday (July 13, 2004) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk following an
  extended illness. He was born Jan. 12, 1923 in Gary, Ind., the son of the late Michael and Barbara Chabe. Dr. Chabe served
  as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946, receiving numerous medals and commendations.
  Arrangements are by the Larson-Timko Funeral Home, Fredonia.
  CHANDLER  Douglas D.

  Hospital. He was born June 2, 1948, in Jamestown, a son of Noah Davis Chandler and Beatrice Kennedy Chandler Parsons.
  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1965 to 1969 Burial will be in Soldier's Circle in LakeView Cemetery.
  CHAPMAN  Arthur H.
  Arthur H. Chapman, 81, of 78 Linwood Ave., died at 6:05 p.m. Monday (Dec. 20, 2004) in his home.  He was born June 23,
  1923, in the town of Chautauqua, the son of Howard and Mildred Earle Chapman. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in
   the U.S. Marine Corps from 1941 to 1945, and was wounded in action on Guadalcanal. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

  5/6/2002 - WESTFIELD - Marvin L. Chapman, 75, of South Water Street, died Monday (May 6, 2002) in the Veterans
  Administration Medical Center, Buffalo. He was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Westfield, the son of Ellis and Clare Main Chapman. He
  was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army with the 915th Ordinance Division and reached the rank of corporal.

   (Jan. 31, 2002) in Sunbridge Care Facility. He was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Bemus Point, the son of Asa B. and Mary Jane
  Hares Cheney. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
  CHIAPPONE  Louis S.
  Louis S. Chiappone, 89, of the Lutheran Retirement Home, formerly of 11 English St., died at 6:24 a.m. Wednesday (May 26,
  2004) in WCA Hospital. An area resident most of his life, he was born Jan. 5, 1915, in Angola, the son of James and
  Josephine Palisano Chiappone. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II from Nov. 20, 1942, to Feb. 16,
   1946, stationed in Rhineland and Central Europe. During his tour of duty as a member of the 697th Field Artillery Battalion, he
  was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Distinguished Unit
  Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He also served 14 months in the European Theater as an
  automobile mechanic with the 94th Troop Reconnaissance Squadron Mechanized, where he was awarded two battle stars
  and a Presidential Citation. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.

  1/18/2001 -  Warren A. Choate, 82, of 2832 Lincoln Drive, died Thursday (Jan. 18, 2001) in his home. He was born July 22,
  1918, in Jamestown, the son of Alvin and Mabel Leugemor Choate. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air
  Force. Arrangements are by the Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, Pa., 17754.

  12/18/2001 -  Frank B. Church, 77, of Utley Road, died Tuesday (Dec. 18, 2001) in Gowanda Nursing Home. He was born Jan.
  31, 1924, in Penfield, N.Y., the son of William and Ina Woolizer Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S.
  Navy from 1942 to 1946.  A private family funeral service will be held at a later date.
  CIMINO  Joseph
  3/9/2008 - Joseph Cimino, 85, formerly of 764 Baker St. Ext., died at 10:50 a.m. Saturday (March 8, 2008). A lifelong area
  resident he was born June 10, 1922, in Jamestown, the son of the late Anthony and Marie Piazza Cimino. Joe attended
  Jamestown High School and was a veteran ofWorld War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946, serving in
  the China, Burma and India campaigns. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.
