3/15/2001 - Merle W. Heald, 76, of 25
Cherry St., Frewsburg, died Thursday (March 15, 2001) in WCA Hospital. He was
born
June 24, 1924, in Warren, the son of Clarence
and Eva Beecher Heald. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S.
Army. Burial will be in Maple Grove
Cemetery, Frewsburg.
HEARBURG Laverene E.
Laverne Edward Hearburg, 77, of 195 Frederick
Blvd., West Ellicott, formerly of 4292 Towerville Road, Bemus Point, died at
5:06 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 28, 2004) in WCA
Hospital. A native of Jamestown, he was born Aug. 6, 1927, the son of Carl Axel
and Ebba S. Odlund Hearburg. He attended the
Jamestown Public Schools and was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy during
World War II and the Korean War, from Oct. 16,
1945, to May 24, 1965, and obtained the rank of chief pipe fitter. Burial will
be
in Lake View Cemetery.
HEATH Wilson H.
PJ. 2/12/1002: Wilson H. Heath 87 formerly of
Mulberry Street Ashville died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 10 2002) in the
Heritage
Park Health Care Center. A lifelong area
resident he was born May 12 1914 in Jamestown the son of Orry B. and Kate
Wilson
Heath. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving
during World War II in the Pacific Theater. During his tour of duty from June
10 1941 to Oct. 5 1945 he received the Good
Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with three bronze stars.
Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery Bemus
Point Ny.
HEGLUND LaVerne E.
BEMUS POINT - LaVerne E. ''Wiener'' Heglund, 78
of High Acres Bemus Point, died at 12:37 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 1, 2004) in
Heritage Green Health Care Center. A lifelong
area resident, he was born Oct. 8, 1925, in Jamestown, the son of Edwin and
Laura Beckman Heglund. He was a veteran of the
U.S. Navy, serving as seaman first class from 1944 to1946 aboard PT
379.Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery.
HELMS Roger E.
8/3/2006 - Roger E. Helms,78, died Thursday,
July 27, 2006 in Melbourne, Fla. He had resided at 376 Baker St., until
February
2006. Prior to that time he had been a lifelong
resident of the Jamestown/ Randolph area. Mr. Helms was born on Nov. 17,
1927 in Newfane, N.Y., the son of Christopher B.
and Murial Burroughs Helms. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the
U.S. Army Air Corp. Burial will be in Sunset
Hill Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.
HENDERSON Rhoe B. Jr.

Rhoe B. Henderson Jr., 83, of 3910 Teeside Drive, and 80 Pennsylvania
Ave., Jamestown, died Saturday (Nov.
24, 2001) in Community Hospital, New Port
Richey. He was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Jamestown, the son of Rhoe B. and
Florence Henderson Sr. A 1936 graduate of
Jamestown High School. During World War
II, he served in the U.S. Air Force,
piloting transport planes from India over the
Himalayas (‘‘the Hump’’) to China, earned the Air Medal and Distinguished
Flying
Cross and was later active in the Air Force
Reserves for 25 years, both in Jamestown and Niagara Falls, retiring with the
rank
of
lieutenant colonel.A memorial service will be held in Jamestown at the
convenience of the family.
HENRY Russell E.

Russell E. Henry, 91, of 318 Ash St., died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) in
Kane Community Hospital. He was born Jan.
3, 1910,
in Clarion County, the son of Harry B and Sarah A. Kifer Henry. He was a
veteran of World War II. Burial will be
in
Forest Lawn Cemetery.
HERBST Darwin C.
2/5/2008 - Darwin C. Herbst, 83, of East Virginia
Boulevard, Jamestown, formerly of Hartfield, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at
Heritage Green Health Care Center. He was the
husband of Martha Jackway Herbst, his high school sweetheart, whom he
married Sept. 19, 1945. Darwin was born April 5,
1924, in Westfield, the son of Paul and Mabel Peterson Herbst. He was a
1942 graduate of Westfield High School and a
veteran of World War II. He was in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific war
zones during his enlistment in the U.S. Maritime
Service, an experience that gave him a love for the sea and for sailing. He
then
served
in the U.S. Army as a technical sergeant in the 185 Engineer Combat Battalion.
After cremation, his ashes will be

Clyde A. Himes Sr., 76, of 226 Mud Creek Road, died at 8:26 p.m.
Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2001) in his home. An
area
resident most of his life, he was born April 20,
1924, in Franklin, Pa., the son of Elmer and Sarah Miller Himes. He attended
Chautauqua
schools and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in
the European Theater.

W. Jack Hine, 77, died Saturday (March 16, 2002) in Putnam Community
Medical Center, Palastka. A Florida
resident for 15 years, he was born in Jamestown,
the son of Clarence and Winogene Hine. He was a veteran of World War II
and received a Purple Heart, the American
Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal. A private graveside service will be held
at
the convenience of the family in Pine Hill
Cemetery, Falconer.
HIRLEMANN Robert E.
7/22/2006 - Robert E. Hirlemann, 78, of 24
Walnut St., died at 8:57 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006 at his residence. He was
born
on March 31, 1928 in Newark, N.J., the son of
Henry and Martha Kruse Hirlemann. He served with the U.S. Navy during World
War II. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre

of R. D. 3, Nesmith Ave., Bemus Point, formerly of R. D. 1, Mahanna Road, died
at 6:30 a.m. Sunday (May 31, 1992) in Veteran’s
Administration Hospital, Erie, Pa. A Jamestown area resident since 1934, he
was born Nov. 29, 1912, in Pleasantville, a son
of Charles and Margaret Doyle Hoag. He was a veteran of World War II, when
he served in the 17th Airborne Division as a
paratrooper in the U.S. Army. Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.

of Wahlgren Road, died Tuesday (May 8, 2007) at WCA Hospital. He
was born Jan. 20, 1926 in Leimen, Germany, the
son of the late Eugene and Irma (Klein) Hochreiter. He was a World War II
German army veteran. He Burial will be in Maple
Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg, NY.

7/2/2003 - Charles L. Hodnett, 78, of the
Heritage Park Health Care Center, formerly of 29 Mt. Vernon Place, died at 6:42
a.m.
Tuesday (July 1, 2003) in WCA Hospital. A
Jamestown resident since 1984, he was born Jan. 15, 1925, in Chatham, Va., the
son of the late William and Daisy Moore Hodnett.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from July 9, 1943,
to Nov. 23, 1944, as a member of the 882nd
Quartermaster Gas Supply Company. He served his second tour of duty in the
U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960. Sunset Hill
HOFERT Nelson R.
Nelson R. Hofert, 94, of Heritage Park Health
Care Center, formerly of Tupper Lake, N.Y., Sugar Grove and Frewsburg Rest
Home, died at 6:40 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 13, 2005)
in WCA Hospital. An area resident since 1973, he was born March 5, 1910, in
Buffalo, the son of Andrew and Myrtle Retchless
Hofert. He was a graduate of Tupper Lake High School and a 1929 graduate
of the
Wanakena Ranger School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S.
Army. Inurnment will be in Lake View
Cemetery Tupper Lake.

8406 Brownell Road died at 9:45 pm Wednesday (Sept. 14 2005) in
Warren General Hospital Warren. He was born Oct. 2 1918 in Clymer the son of
William and Louise Wiggers Hogenboom. He
was a veteran of World War II serving in U. S.
Army in the European Theater. Burial will be in Holland Cemetery Clymer NY.

born Sept. 7, 1926, the son of James and Pearl Lager Hollings. He served in the
U.S.
Army.

12/20/2002 - FREDONIA - James E. ''J.J.'' Holly,
78, of 26 Clinton Ave., Fredonia, died Thursday (Dec. 19, 2002) in Brooks
Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. He was born May 15, 1924, in Bolivar, N.Y.,
a son of Ernest and Eleanor Marcella Siloby
Holly.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Japanese campaign,
earning a Purple Heart. Funeral services
and interment will be private and held at the
convenience of the family.
HOLT George E.
1/7/2007 - George E. Holt, 92, died Saturday
(Jan. 6, 2007) in the Lutheran Retirement Home and Rehabilitation Center. A
Jamestown native, he was born March 7, 1915, a
son of Emil and Emma Carlson Holt. He
was a graduate of Jamestown High
School and Fredonia College. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S.
Army. Burial will be in Mesa, Arizona.
HONEY Donald M.
Donald M. Honey, 76, of 3744 Dailey Hill Road, died
at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday (May 9, 2001) in his home. He was born Dec. 27,
1924, in Belle Valley, Pa., the son of Bennett
V. and Eleanor W. Will Honey. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the
U.S. Army in the European Theater from March 16,
1943, to Jan. 16, 1946, and was a five-star family member serving with
four brothers in Europe. He served in the U.S.
Army for 43 years and retired as a chief warrant officer. Burial will be in the
Kennedy Riverside Cemetery, Kennedy, NY.
HOSKINS Arnold E.

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — Arnold Edward Hoskins, 80, formerly of Jamestown,
died Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001). He
was a veteran of World War II, serving in the
U.S. Air Force. A memorial visitation
will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today in the
Whitfield Funeral Home, 5008 Gall Blvd.,
Zephyrhills.
HOUSE Gilbert W.
4/2/2007 - Gilbert W. House, 91, of 176
Chautauqua Ave., Lakewood, died at 10:48 a.m. Saturday (March 31, 2007) in WCA
Hospital. He was born April 18, 1915 in
Stockton, the son of Ray and Nellie House.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army during
WWII .While in the Army, he served as a Sergeant
with Battery D 438th Anti Aircraft AW Battalion. He fought in the battles of
Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the
Ardennes, Central Europe, and the Battle of the Bulge. Sgt House received a
commendation from his commanding officer for
summoning aid for a fellow soldier who was killed in action, and for speed and
good
judgment shown. He also was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service
after he ran into a minefield to carry out
a fellow
soldier who had suffered a severe leg injury.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.
HOWARD Erwin B.

Sr., 82, died Wednesday (June 18, 1997) in Winter Haven Hospital, Florida.
He was born June 27, 1914, in Holley, N.Y, a son
of Eugene and Alice Bowen Howard. A veteran of World War II, he served
in the Army Air Corps in New Guinea
HOYT Arland K.
Arland K. Hoyt, age 82, of West Main Road,
Westfield, died Friday morning, May 16, 2008 at home following an extended
illness.
Arland was born in West-field on July 2, 1925 a son of the late H. Perry
and Mil-dred (Brown) Hoyt.He attended
Westfield Academy and was a 1943 graduate of
Carson Long Military School in Pennsyl-vania. He enlisted in the US Army Air
Corps serving his country from 1943-1945, and
earned the rank of Second Lt. as an aviator. Burial was private.

5/8/2003 - IRVINE - Joseph P. Hudock, 84, of 3
Depot St., formerly of Findley Lake, Westfield, Sugar Grove and Warren, died
Monday (May 5, 2003) in his home. A Warren
County resident for many years, he was born March 6, 1919, in Warren, the son
of
George and Susanna Dzurina Hudock. A veteran of World War II, he served in the
U.S. Army and was a prisoner of war

Hospital.
He was born Aug. 15, 1916 in Columbus, Pa., a
son of the late Joseph and Ethel Bush Hudson. Clayton was proud to serve in
the U. S. Air Force during World War II as a
B-29 navigator, and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel through the Air
Force
Reserves. A private committal service will take
place in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville, NY.
HULTMAN Milton S.
4/19/2008 - Milton S. Hultman, 84, of Gerry died
at 6:55 a.m. Friday, (April 18, 2008) in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled
Nursing Center. A life-long area resident, he
was born July 26, 1923 in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late Emmanuel and
Ellen Johnson Hultman. Milton attended Jamestown
High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War
II in
the Pacific Theatre. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer, NY.
HUNT Richard M.
12/9/2001 - Richard M. Hunt, 92, of 15 W. Evans
St., died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 9, 2001) in Westfield Memorial Hospital. He
was born
Nov. 30, 1909, in Bradford, the son of Richard P. and Jessie Dunbar Hunt. He
was a veteran of World War II
serving in the U.S. Army as a radio operator.

HURD Elmer J.

Elmer J. Hurd Sr., 80, of Erie Street, died Wednesday (Dec. 26, 2001) in
his home. He was born Dec. 24, 1921, in
Hornell,
the son of Claude and Maude Hurd. On June 16, 1946, he married the former
Dorothy Bruyere, who preceded him in
death on Feb. 20, 1991. He was a World War II
veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He also worked for the
Civilian Conservation Corps for one year. A memorial service will be held at the
convenience of the family.

2/24/2001 - William R. Hutt, 80, of 81 Jefferson
St., died Saturday (Feb. 24, 2001) in his home. He was born Jan. 20, 1921, in
Almont, Pa., the son of Raymond L. and Florence
Flag Hess Hutt. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in
France
and Germany with Patton's 3rd Army, 10th Armored Division as a driver of the
Red Ball Express Ammunition Run. The
