  LADOW  Earl J.
  GERRY - Earl J. LaDow, 81, of Heritage Village Health Care Center, formerly of Sinclairville, Gerry and Jamestown, died
  Wednesday (May 19, 2004) in the facility.  He was born April 9, 1923, in Falconer, the son of the late Clarence and Maude
  (Backus) LaDow. A Chautauqua County resident most of his life, Mr. LaDow attended Randolph Central School. He was a
  veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Helena as a fireman first class. Burial was in Cassadaga
  LAMANCUSO  Ignatius
  9/9/2007 - Ignatius ‘‘Frank’’ ‘‘Nay’’ LaMancuso, 81, of 16 Arnold St., died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 6, 2007) in his home
  surrounded by family following an extended illness. A lifelong area resident, he was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Jamestown, a son
   of the late John Salvatore and Jennie Amatuzzo LaMancuso.  He was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a
   veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II from Aug. 31, 1944, to July 8, 1946. Burial will be in the Holy Sepulchre
  LAMANTIA  Frank J.
  12/27/2007 - Frank J. Lamantia, 80, of 70 Liberty St., Jamestown, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, in the Lutheran
   Home and Retirement Center. He was born in Jamestown on Aug. 12, 1927, the son of Peter and Catherine Madonia Lamantia.
   He served as a topographical draftsman with the U.S. Army during World War II and earned the Army of Occupation Medal
  and the World War II Victory Medal.  Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.
  LAMANTIA  Peter J.
  12/28/2001 - FALCONER - Peter Joseph Lamantia, 75, of 30 Almat Ave., formerly of 12 Bassett St., Jamestown, died Friday
  (Dec. 28, 2001) in Heritage Park Health Care Center. He was born May 20, 1926, in Jamestown, the son of Pietro and
  Catherine Madonia Lamantia. He was a veteran of World War II, serving the U.S. Army Air Force as an interpreter, stationed in
  Rome, Italy, from 1944-46. Burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
  LAND  Harold A.
  MAYVILLE - Harold Ashley Land, 93, of Mayville and Raleigh, N.C., died Sunday (Dec. 21, 2003) in North Carolina. He was
  born Oct. 26, 1910, in Springville, N.Y., the son of John and Blanche Land. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the
  U.S. Navy Seabees in the Pacific Theater, and was in charge of the brig and 300 other police officers while serving in the
  Philippines and New Guinea.  Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery, Sherman.
  LANDIS  Roy M.
  PJ: 1/29/1990: Maple Springs: Roy M. Landis, 65, of Maple Springs, died at 5:34 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 27, 1990) in WCA Hospital.
   He was born Feb. 3, 1923 in Arnold Pa., a son of the late Earl M. and Millie E. Kerr Landis. He was a graduate of Arnold High
  School, class of 1943, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Burial was in Bemus Point Cemetery.
  LANDY  Decio F.
  Decio F. ''Dash'' Landy, 77, formerly of 313 Van Buren St., died at 8:35 a.m. Sunday (July 25, 2004) in Heritage Green Health
  Care Center. A native of Jamestown, he was born Sept. 24, 1926, the son of Fred V. and Sara Caccamise Landy. He was a
  1945 graduate of Manlius Military Academy, and a 1953 graduate of the University of Florida School of Pharmacy. He served in
   the U.S. Army during World War II in the 88th Division Infantry from 1945 until his discharge in 1946. A private entombment will
  be held in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
  LANDY  Joseph J.
  3/26/2007 - Joseph J. Landy, 85, of 480 Baker St., died at 10:55 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2007 at WCA Hospital. A native of
  Jamestown, he was born March 19, 1922, the son of Patsy and Carmella Bellardo Landy. He was a 1940 graduate of
  Jamestown High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery,
  LANDY  Vincent J.
  Vincent J. Landy, 88, of 441 Ocotella Lane, Yuma, Ariz., died May 27, 2008, in the Yuma Life Care Center. Vincent was born
  in Jamestown, N.Y., on Feb. 17, 1920, the son of the late Pasquali and Carmela Belar-do Landy. He enlisted in the Army Air
  Corps on April 13, 1942. Making the military his career, he retired as Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force on Nov.
  1, 1971. During his military career, Vin saw action in World War II, The Korean War and in Vietnam. His ser-vice to his country
  earned him rewards such as the World War II Victory Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, Air Force
  Longevity Medal and many others.  He was buried in Sun Set Vista Cemetery in Yuma, Ariz.
  LANDY  Vincent J.
  11/13/2001 -  Vincent J. Landy, 78, of 230 South Main St., died at 12:28 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 13, 2001) in the WCA Hospital. A
  native of Jamestown, he was born Sept. 27, 1923, the son of Louis and Rose Bellardo Landy. He was a 35-year employee of
  the former Blackstone Corp., retiring in 1985. He attended Jamestown High School and was a veteran during World War II,
  serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. medical corp. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  LANGEBARTEL  Ralph W.
  2/19/2001 -  Ralph W. Langebartel, 82, of 20 of Maple St., died at 8 a.m. Monday  (Feb. 19, 2001) in Heritage Green Health Care
   Center, Greenhurst. A Jamestown  area resident since 1948, he was born April 13, 1918, in Philadelphia, the son of  Ralph E.
  and May Frieda Kreeb Langebartel. He was a 1936 graduate of Olney High School,  Olney, Pa., a 1953 graduate of the State
  College at Oswego with a bachelor of  science degree in industrial art education and earned his masters in education  from
  the University of Buffalo. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the  U.S. Army as a forward observer in the 90th
  Division, Battery B, 241st Field Artillery Battalion  in the European Theatre. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star,  Air
  Metal and Cluster to the Air Metal.  Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.
  LANGHAM  Edward R.
  PJ Obit 5/9/2002 Edward R. Langham, 81, of 1092 Kiantone Road, died at 5:37 p.m. Thursday (May 9, 2002) in WCA Hospital A
   lifelong Jamestown resident, he was born Dec. 19, 1920, a son of Edward and Bertha Krone Langham. He attended
  Jamestown High School and was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific, New Guinea, Philipines
  and Japan as a radar operator and truck driver. He was awarded medals for Asiatic Pacific service, World War II victory,
  good conduct, sharp shooting, American service and also received the Philippines Liberation ribbon Burial in Lake View
  LARSON  Carl A.
  5/29/2001 -  Carl A. Larson, 87, of 76 East Terrace Ave., died at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday (May 29, 2001) in WCA Hospital. A lifelong
   area resident, he was born Feb. 14, 1914, in Chandlers Valley, Pa., the son of John B. and Johanna ‘‘Hulda’’ Johannson
  Larson. He was a veteran of World War II ,serving in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant with the 10th Mountain Division during
  the Battle of Po Valley.  Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  LARSON  Harold H.
  Harold H. Larson, 78, of 319 Palmer Street, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday(April 8, 2000) on the campus of Lutheran Social
  Services.  A lifelong area resident, he was born July 10, 1921, in Busti, the son of Jacob Magnus and Hulda Grundstrom
  Larson. He graduated from Lakewood High School.  A veteran of World War II, he received Asiatic, Pacific, and American
  defense medals while serving with the 3rd Special Navy Constructure Seabee Stevedore Outfit. Burial will be in Sunset Hill
  Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.
  LARSON  John W.
  4/3/2002 -  John W. ‘‘Jack’’ Larson, 77, of 65 Stewart Ave., died at 7:22 p.m. Wednesday (April 3, 2002) in WCA Hospital. An
  area resident for 45 years, he was born Jan. 16, 1925, in Port Allegheny, Pa., the son of Levin and Grace Phalin Larson. He
  was a graduate of Port Allegany High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and received the Purple Heart
  following the sinking of his ship, the USS Rich, during the Battle of Normandy. He later served on the USS O’Leary in Japan.
  Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  LARSON  Reynold O.
  8/11/2007 - Reynold O. Larson, 80, of 156 Price Ave., W.E. died unexpectedly at 4:50 a.m. Friday (August 10, 2007) in WCA
  Hospital. A lifelong area resident he was born April 26, 1927, in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Oscar R. and Hilda A.
  Stoberg Larson.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II from May 22, 1945, to August 20, 1946.
  During his tour of duty he had received the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the American Theatre
  Medal. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.
  LARSON  Robert E.
  12/24/2002 - Robert E. ''Red'' Larson, 87, of 22 Buffalo St., died at 10:35 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 22, 2002) in WCA Hospital. An
  area resident all of his life, he was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Jamestown, the son of Charles and Gertrude Billings Larson.served
  in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Burial will be in Soldier's Circle of Lake View Cemetery.
  LARSON  Robert S.
  PJ: 3/14/1990: Bemus Point: Robert S. Larson, 73, of R.D. 1, Bayview Road, Bemus Point, died at 2:53 p.m. Tuesday (March
  13, 1990) in his home. An area resident most of his life, he was born June 4, 1916, in Jamestown, a son of Albert Sigurd and
  Olge Lindahl Larson. He had been a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Burial was in Bemus Point Cemetery.
  LASKARIS  Gust G.
  Gust G. Laskaris, 89, of 11 Pennsylvania Ave., died at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 10, 2003) in WCA Hospital. A Jamestown
  native, he was born Aug. 28, 1914, the son of George and Christine Kacvas Laskaris. He graduated from Jamestown High
  School, and was a veteran of the World War II, serving the U.S. Army. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Jamestown, NY
  LAWERGREN  David A.
  1/6/2005 - ERIE - David A. Lawergren Jr., 80, of Erie, formerly of Jamestown, died Wednesday (Jan. 5, 2005) in the Hamot
  Medical Center.  He was born June 19, 1924, in Jamestown, the son of David A. and Elsie Olivia Kindberg Lawergren Sr. A
  Navy veteran, he served during World War II as a gunners mate first class aboard the USS P.C. 1228 and the USS Toledo CA
  133. Burial will be in the Fluvanna Cemetery.
  LAWRENCE  David L.
  9/25/2007 - David L. Lawrence, 89, formerly of 90 Lakeside Drive, Bemus Point, died at 12:25 a.m. Monday (Sept. 24, 2007), in
   the Lutheran Home and Rehab Center. He was born Oct. 11, 1917 in Denver, Colo., the son of Gifford and Mabelle Hall
  Lawrence. He was a graduate of Falconer High School, the Pittsburgh Art Institute and had attended the University of Buffalo.
  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
  LAWSON  Charles E.
  1/3/2003 - EUSTIS, Fla. - Charles E. Lawson, 88, of Portland and a winter resident of Eustis, died in Waterman Medical Center,
  Eustis. He was born March 9, 1914, the son of Charles A. and Ethel Carter Lawson. He was a veteran of World War II,
  serving in the U.S. Army in the Philippines.
  LAWSON  Donald R.
  PJ: 8/5/1997: Missoula, Mont. Donald R. Lawson, 76, died Friday (July 11, 1997) in his home. He was born Feb. 12, 1921 in
  Ellery Center, the son of Carey E. King and Lucy L. Hoff Lawson. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Burial
  was in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Missoula.

  Cemetery, Ashville. A lifelong area resident, he was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army,
  LEAMER  Ralph F.
  3/27/2007 - Ralph F. Leamer, 84 of East Main St., Ripley, died peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, March 24,
  2007 at the Veterans Adminstration Hospital in Erie. He was born Nov. 13, 1922 in Westover, Pa., a son of the late John and
  Laura Stahl Leamer. He had served with U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 and received the Purple Heart and the Asiatic Pacific
  Theatre Ribbon. Burial was held with full military honors in the Bath National Cemetery in Bath, N. Y.
  LEAVENS  Donald W. Jr.
  8/22/2002 - Donald W. Leavens Jr., 78, of 139 Frederick Blvd., W.E., died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 21, 2002) in his home.
    An area resident most of his life, he was born June 18, 1924, in Newark, N.J., the son of Donald W. and Marion Riggin
  Leavens Sr. He was a 1948 graduate of Rushford, N.Y., High School after completing accelerated courses in Rochester, and
  was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. Burial will be in the Allen Cemetery.

  9/6/2004 - Marion H. LaBarte, 86, of 2734 Garfield Road, died at 11:08 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 5, 2004) in WCA Hospital. He was
  born May 5, 1918, in Titusville, Pa., the son of Gordon LaBarte and Josephine Hunt. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from
  1941-45, serving in World War II. Burial will be in Busti Cemetery.
  LEE  Clifford L.
  5/3/2002 -  Clifford L. Kip Lee, 82, of 17 Adams St., died at 9:12 a.m. Friday (May 3, 2002) in the home of his daughter on
  Warner Bay Road, Bemus Point. A native of Jamestown, he was born Aug. 4, 1919, the son of George E. and Annie Allison
  Lee. He was a set-up operator at the former Crescent Tool Co. for many years. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army
  during World War II in Company E 174th Infantry from Sept. 17, 1940, to Sept. 16, 1941, and Jan. 21, 1942, until his discharge
  as a staff sergeant on Dec. 5, 1945. He was a member of the Lakewood Memorial Post 1286 American Legion. Burial will be in
  LEE  James
  6/19/2004 - James Lee, 96, of 23 Glenview Ave., died at 11:05 p.m. Thursday  (June 17, 2004) in WCA Hospital.  A lifelong
  area resident, he was born June 17, 1908,  in Jamestown, the son of James and Clara Lees Lee. He was a 1926 graduate of 
  Jamestown High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945,  serving in the 17th and 82nd Airborne Divisions, with
  duty in the European Theater.   Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
  LEONARD  Charles E.
  5/6/2003 - Charles Elmer Leonard, 80, formerly of 101 Peterson St., died at 11:30 a.m. Monday (May 5, 2003) in Lutheran
  Retirement Home. He was born Sept. 14, 1922, in Clarendon, Pa., a son of William H. and Hulda Weitrick Leonard. He was a
  U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from Nov. 21, 1942, to Jan.17, 1946. Burial in Lakeview Cemetery Jamestown NY
  LEONARD  Irving L. Sr.
  Irving L. ''Joe'' Leonard Sr., 80, of 493 1/2 Willard St. died at 1:25 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 29, 2005) in WCA Hospital.  He was born
  Nov. 3, 1924, in Warren, a son of Wilhelm and Flora Wiethrich Leonard. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army,
  serving with the 534th Amphibian Tractor Battalion from 1943 to 1946. Because of his military service, he was unable to finish
  high school, but was given an honorary diploma by Sheffield High School in 2003.  Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  LEONE  Frank J.
  1/13/2001 -  Frank J. Leone, 81, of 1037 E. Second St., died at 10:12 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 13, 2001) in the VA Medical Center,
  Erie. A lifelong area resident, he was born April 30, 1919, in Falconer, the son of Michael and Rose Scaneo Leone. He
  attended Falconer Schools and had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Burial will be in Mt.
  LEONE  Russell H.
  11/15/2002 - FREDONIA - Russell Harry Leone, 87, of 17 White St., formerly of the Kissimmee, Fla., area, and the Falconer and
   Dunkirk areas, died Wednesday (Nov. 13, 2002) in Brooks Memorial Hospital.  He was born March 19, 1915, the son of Jacob
  and Mary Christina Leone. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Merchant Marines from 1943 to 1945. A memorial
  service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, in the Fantauzzi Funeral Home, 82 East Main St., Fredonia.
  LEROY  Edison C. Jr.
  Edison C.''Ed'' LeRoy, Jr., 80, of 9-A Bradmar Circle died at 4:17 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 16, 2004) in his home.  A lifelong area
  resident, he was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Jamestown, the son of Edison C. and May E. Walrod LeRoy. He was a 1942 graduate
  of the former Celoron High School, and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II from Feb. 4, 1943 to Nov. 17,
  1945, as a private first class with the 1394th Military Police. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater
  Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. Burial will be in the
  Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  LEVIN  Carl W.
  8/25/2001 -  Carl W. Levin, 92, of 11 E. Terrace Ave., formerly of 1615 Southwestern Drive, died at 9:25 p.m. Saturday (Aug.
  25, 2001) in the Lutheran Retirement Home. An area resident most of his life, he was born Dec. 28, 1908, in McKeesport, Pa.,
  a son of Axel and Hedvig Hollenius Levin. A 1927 Mayville High School graduate, he received his bachelor’s degree from
  American University, Washington, in 1931 and his master’s degree, following the war, from St Bonaventure University in 1953.
   He concluded service in the U.S. Army as a lieutenant in the 1132nd Engineer Combat Group of the Ninth Army during World
  War II, with service in the Rhineland and European-African Middle Eastern campaigns.  Burial will be in Busti Cemetery.
  LEWIS  William
  10/30/2001 - William Lewis, 81, formerly of Jamestown, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001). He was born Feb. 14, 1920, the son of
  William G. and Ruth Maxwell Lewis. He was a graduate of Penn State University and a veteran of World War II, serving in the
  U.S. Navy in the Pacific and European Theatre.
