  SAEGER  Allan L.
  4/9/2006 - Allan L. Saeger, 79, formerly of 3077 Chautauqua Ave, Ashville, and 878 Fairmount Ave., W.E., died at 8:45 p.m. on
  Friday (April 7, 2006) in the Heritage Green Health Care Center.  A native of Jamestown, he was born May 4, 1926, the son of
  Nannie Florence Swanson Saeger. Mr. Saeger was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II from April
  25, 1944, until he was wounded and discharged May 12, 1946. He was awarded the Purple Heart. The Lind Funeral Home of
  Jamestown, NY,  is in charge of the arrangements.

  12/28/2007 - STOCKTON — Joseph H. Salaba Jr., 82, of Cummings Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at his residence.
  He was born March 6, 1925, in New York City, the son of Joseph and Anna Warnuska Salaba. He was a World War II U.S.
  Army veteran.  Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sinclairville, NY.
  SALETTA  Horace
  DUNKIRK - Horace Saletta, 85, a resident of the Chautauqua County Home formerly of Fredonia died Saturday, December 17,
  2005 in the facility.  He was born March 13, 1920 in Laona, N.Y., the son of Anthony and Sarah (DeCarlo) Saletta. He served
  in the U.S. Army receiving numerous decorations and citations involved in campaigns and battles in Algeria-French Morocco
  Ardennes Central Europe Normandy Rhineland Sicily and Tunisia. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery Fredonia.
  SAMUELSON  Ivar A.
  8/12/2006 - Ivar A. Samuelson, 82, of 30 Roland Road, died at 7:45 a.m. Friday, (August 11, 2006) in WCA Hospital following
  an extended illness.  A lifelong area resident he was born June 2, 1924, in the Town of Ellicott, a son of Henning Samuel and
  Gerda K. Johanson Samuelson. He was a 1942 graduate of Jamestown High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army,
  serving during World War II with the 745th Railway Operations Battalion in India. He served in the Army from February 4, 1943,
   to January 10, 1946, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill
  SANCTUARY  Gordon R.
  Dr. Gordon R. Sanctuary, 94, of 4247 Martha’s Vine-yard, Bemus Point, formerly of 1311 N. Main St., died at 8:30 a.m. on
  Sunday, May 18, 2008, in the Heritage Green Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing. A native of Jamestown, he was born April 9,
  1914, the son of the late Rudolph and Meta Enslev Sanctuary. He was a 1932 graduate of Jamestown High School, earned his
   degree in pre-dental at University of Buffalo, and graduated in 1939, earning his doctorate in Dental Surgery from University
  of Pennsylvania. He reported for duty in the Army Air Corp., entering the service as a dentist for a B-17 Bom-bardment Group,
  Fifteenth Air Force. His military service initially took him to North Africa, followed by extended time in Italy. During his years in
  the service, he distinguished himself not only as a dentist, but also as an inventor. He designed an oxygen mask for use by the
   B-17 gunner and photography crews that would eliminate facial frostbite during high altitude operations. He also invented a
  way to install a 20 mm canon in the tail of a B-17 to provide a powerful, and much needed, means of defense. Dr. Sanctuary
  received the Bronze Star and left the service in 1945 as a Major. Burial was in Lake View Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.
  SANDBLOOM  Lloyd K.
  Lloyd K. Sandbloom, 71, of 609 7th Street, formerly of 125 William Street, Jamestown, died at 2:07 a.m. Friday(July 29, 1994) in
   Veterans Administration Hospital, Buffalo. He was born July 9, 1923, in Jamestown, the son of the late Gust and Jennie
  Johnson Sandbloom.A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served from Sept. 13, 1942, to Nov. 10, 1945 in the Asiati-Pacific
  and the European-African theaters of war. He was active in the Phillipine liberation, earning a Bronze Star. Burial in Sunset Hill
  SANFORD  Gordon L.
  4/5/2001 -  Gordon L. Sanford, 71, of 2392 N. Maple St. and 9115 41st St. N.,  Pinellas Park, Fla., died at 8;02 p.m. Thursday
  (April 5, 2001) in the Columbus  Regional Hospital, Columbus, Ind. A native of Jamestown, he was born Jan. 13, 1930,  a son
  of the late Harold L. and Irene Rogerson Sanford.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill

  1/9/2001 -  Frank Santucci, 83, of 2947 Johnson Road, formerly of West Oak Hill Road, died at 3:35 a.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 9,
  2001) in his home. A native of Jamestown, he was born April 13, 1917, the son of Anthony and Rose DeMucci Santucci. He
  was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy  Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  SCALA  John M.
  1/15/2004 - FREWSBURG - John M. Scala, 82, of 22 Rogers St., died at 9:09 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 14, 2004) in WCA Hospital.
   An area resident for most of his life, he was born April 21, 1921, in Crosby, Pa., the son of Gaetano ''Guy'' and Maria Salzanni
   Scala. He was a veteran World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from Oct. 21, 1942, to Jan. 18, 1946, with the 769th Army Air
  Force Base Unit. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater
  Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves from Jan. 19, 1946, to Jan.
  18, 1949. Burial in Sunset Hill
  SCANEO  Benjamin P.
  1/5/2005 - FALCONER - Benjamin P. Scaneo, 92, of 304 E. Elmwood Ave., died at 5:10 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 2, 2005) in the WCA
  Hospital.  An area resident most of his life, he was born Dec. 1, 1912, in New York City, the son of Joseph and Rose Dolce
  Scaneo. He graduated from Falconer High School in 1931 and later from Fordham Law School. He served in the U.S. Army
  during World War II. Burial will be in the Mt Olivet Cemetery.
  SCANZANO  Michael A.
  3/6/2002 -  Michael Anthony Scanzano, 81, of 3742 East Main St., died Tuesday (March 6, 2002) in the Waters of Westfield.
  He was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Buffalo, the son of Leonard and Lucy Aquino Scanzano. He was a veteran of World War II,
  serving in the U.S. Air Force. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
  SCHILLING  Robert E.
  8/3/2003 - Robert E. Schilling, 76, Lutheran Social Services, formerly of 55 E. Elmwood Ave., Falconer, died at 7:51 p.m. Friday
   (Aug. 1, 2003) in the WCA Hospital. A lifelong area resident, he was born June 20, 1927, in Jamestown, the son of Charles
  J.F. and Ethel M. Wilson Schilling. served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  SCHMIDT  Melvin W.
  1/11/2004 - Melvin W. Schmidt, 78, of 3274 Turner Road, formerly of West Seneca and Colden, died at 8:50 p.m. Friday (Jan. 9,
   2004) in WCA Hospital. He was born March 2, 1925, in Gardenville, N.Y., the son of Henry and Elizabeth Bacher Schmidt. He
  was a 1943 graduate of East Aurora High School. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1943 to 1945
   Burial in Hoy Sepulchre Cemetery.

  1/20/2004 - Donald C. Schmonsky Sr., 81, of 57 N. Everett St., died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 18, 2004) in his home. He was
  born June 22, 1922, in Sheffield, Pa., the son of James and Clara Knopf Schmonsky. He was a 1941 graduate of Warren High
  School and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps Burial in Sunset Hill
  SCHOENER  Robert J.
  1/22/2003 - DUNKIRK - Robert J. Schoener Sr., 82, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) in the Chautauqua County Home. He was born
   Sept. 23, 1920, in Dunkirk, the son of Lucian and Emma Schromm Schoener. He was a graduate of Dunkirk High School and
  was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1939 to 1951.
  SCHRECK  Clarence W.
  LAKEWOOD--Clarence W. Schreck, 77, of 214 Locust St., Lakewood, died at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday(Feb 28, 1995) in Manor Oak
  Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born Sept. 11, 1917, in Jamestown, the son of Gustave and Alice Terry Schreck. He was a
  1936 graduate of Jamestown High School, attended the University of Buffalo and was veteran of World War II and the Korean
  War. He also served in Surface Division 3-68 US Naval Reserves, for many years. He was buried in Sunset Hill Cemetery,
  SCHREMBS  Lawrence C.
  Lawrence C. Schrembs, 78, a resident of the Chautauqua County Home, Dunkirk, formerly of Pleasant Acres, Route 20,
  Portland, died Sunday (May 9, 2004) at the home. He was born on May 31, 1925 in Buffalo, the son of the late Lawrence G.
  and Lillian A. (Hartz) Schrembs. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Schrembs served stateside in the military police.
  Arrangements are by the Barber Funeral Home, Westfield.
  SCHULER  Paul R.
  1/9/2008 - Paul R. Schuler, 85, of 3844 Pine St., Greenhurst, N.Y., died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2008) in the home of his
  son in Greenhurst. An area resident since 1983, he was born June 2, 1922 in Buffalo, N.Y., a son of the late George J. and
  Evelyn Linamin Schuler. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving from April 5, 1943 to Dec. 6, 1945 during World
  War II. During his tour of duty he had received the Air Medal with Clusters, American Service Medal, the Distinguished Flying
  Cross, the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.  A
  private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
  SCHULTE  Russell H.
  6/21/2001 -  Russell H. Schulte, 85, of 43 Lasalle Ave., died at 12:25 p.m.  Thursday (June 21, 2001) in his home. He was born
   July 16, 1915, in  Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Herbert H. and Rose Gedeon Schulte.  An Eagle Scout, he graduated from West
  Tech High School in Cleveland,  and from Ohio State University in 1938 . During World War II,  he served in the U. S. Army with
  campaigns beginning in Australia and  New Guinea and ending with the landing at Lingayen Gulf and the  capture of Manila.
  Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  SCOLTON  Harry J.
  2/20/2002 -  Harry J. Scolton, 79, of 4970 State Road 474, Ashville, died at 9:09 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2002) in WCA
  Hospital. He was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Pinetop, Ariz., a son of Roy and Rose Buchanan Scolton. A World War II U.S. Army
  veteran, he served in Europe from the second wave of the D-Day invasion through the eventual surrender and war’s end in
  1945, receiving several decorations, including two purple hearts.
  SCOTTY  Walter B.
  9/30/1992  Walter B. Scotty, 73 of West Ellicott, died at 3:49 pm Tuesday (Sept. 29, 1992) in his home. He was born June 27,
  1919, in Olean, the son of George and Pauline Rogosienski Pyskaty. Scotty was a Jamestown resident for the past 43 years.
  He attended Olean schools. During World War II he served in the US Army as a staff sergeant in Company I in the 174th
  Infantry. Burial in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  SCRIVEN  Charles S.
  Charles Charlie Seth Scriven, 89, of Elm Street, Westfield, died May 8 in Westfield Memorial Hospital. He was born May 11,
  1914 in Mayville, the son of Earle and Alice Busch Scriven. A Westfield resident since 1940, he was a graduate of Mayville
  Central School, and a veteran of World war II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 with the 318th fighter control
  squadron as a corporal.  Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery, Westfield.
  SEAGREN  Carl K.
  Dedeaux Community , Miss. - Carl Kermit Seagren, 85, died Monday (July 12, 1999). A former South Stockton resident for 47
  years, he was born May 1, 1914, in Jamestown, the son of Carl and Elizabeth Teckla Seagren. He was a graduate of
  Jamestown High School and entered the Army Air Corps on Oct. 2, 1942, joined the 8th Air Force in England in January 1943
  and on April 10, 1944, was shot down and became a prisoner of war at the Stalag Barracks in Occupied Austria. He received
   the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for combat missions over Occupied Germany. Burial in Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi,
  SECHRIEST  Clarence L.
  Mayville, NY-Clarence L. "Vern" Sechriest, 70, of 46 Academy St., Mayville, died today (Nov. 4, 1986) in Hamot Medical Center
  in Erie. He was born July 9, 1916, in Corry, PA, the son on Clarence & Eva Sechriest.  He was a veteran of WW II, serving
  with the Army in the 77th Tank Battalion.  Burial will be in Grant Cemetery Niobe, NY.
  SEDDON  Marshall E.
  8/28/2002 - WESTFIELD - Marshall Marsh'' E. Seddon Sr., 78, of Cass Street, formerly of Lockport and Gasport, died Monday
  (Aug. 26, 2002) in the Waters of Westfield.  A Westfield resident since January 2001, he was born Dec. 10, 1923, in
  Middleport, the son of John and Ida Faatz Seddon. He was a graduate of Lockport Senior High School and Syracuse
  University.  He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theater as a bombardier with the
   24th bomber squadron of the 6th bomb group and attained the rank of first lieutenant. He had earned several military citations
  and medals. He was active with the Lockport National Guard.  A private interment will be held. No visitation will be observed.
  SEIBERG  Herbert W.
  7/16/2001 -  Herbert W. Seiberg, 75, of 2705 Lake Haven Drive, formerly of Dalton, Ga., and Jamestown, died at 1:54 p.m.
  Monday (July 16, 2001) in Community Hospital of New Port Richey. A Jamestown-area resident most of his life, he was born
  March 8, 1926, in Jamestown, a son of Elmer W. and Mary Pauline Carey Seiberg. He was a graduate of the Valley Forge
  Military Academy in Wayne, Ind., class of 1944, and served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 13, 1944, to Aug. 20, 1946, in the
  European Campaign during World War II. He was discharged as a sergeant and earned the Good Conduct Medal, the World
  War II Victory Medal, the Bronze Service Star in Central Europe and the Army of Occupation Medal. Burial will be in the Sunset

  FORESTVILLE - John Sek, 79, of Fluker Hill Road, formerly of Allegany Road, Silver Creek, died at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday (Aug.
  31, 2004) in his home. He was born July 8, 1925, in Olean, the son of Joseph and Agnes Lenart Sek. He was a veteran of
  World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Burial will be in Forestville Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Samuel
  Cimino VFW Post 6472 of Silver Creek.

  2/5/2004 - DEWITTVILLE - Joseph R. Sena, 87, of Route 430, died Tuesday (Feb. 3, 2004) in Punta Gorda, Fla. He was born
  Dec. 30, 1916, in Jamestown, the son of Dick and Mary DiPuma Sena.He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S.
  Army in the CBI Theater, and had recently attended many of his war reunions. Entombment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
  SHAY  Herbert L.
  9/8/2003 - The Rev. Herbert L. Shay, 86, of Lutheran Social Services, formerly of 120 Aldren Ave. and 3175
  Fluvanna-Townline Road, died at 7:50 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 7, 2003) in the facility. He was born April 14, 1917, in Stockton, the
  son of William and Grace Hanes Shay. He was a graduate of Jamestown High School, attended Bryan College in Dayton,
  Tenn., and studied with the Moody Program, a correspondence course. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S.
  Air Force with the 14th fighter squadron in the African and European Theaters from 1942 to 1945. Burial will be in Fluvanna
  SHERMAN  Duane L.
  12/8/2007 - MAYVILLE — Duane L. Sherman, 79, of 106 Valley St., Mayville, died Thursday (Dec. 6, 2007) in Westfield
  Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Westfield, the son of the late Frank and Tweeneth Jones Sherman. He was a
   veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy.  Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery,  Mayville, NY.
  SHIREY  William N.
  7/21/2003 - William N. Shirey, 75, of the Spanish Gates Apartments, 1 Shirley Lane, died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday (July 19, 2003)
  in WCA Hospital. An area resident most of his life, he was born July 29, 1927, in Lansing, Mich., the son of Harley and Eva
  Boucher Shirey. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1945 to 1946. He was a member of the Henry Mosher
  Post 638 American Legion, the John W. Tiffany Post 53 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the 40 & 8 Club, Post 446, where he
  had served as Chef DeGare in 1979.
  SHOEMAKER  Ralph Jr.
  8/27/2004 - STOCKTON - Ralph Shoemaker Jr., 86, of Stockton Hartfield Road, died Thursday (Aug. 26, 2004) in the Westfield
  Memorial Hospital.  He was born Jan. 10, 1918, in Penfield, Pa., the son of Ralph and Elizabeth Salada Shoemaker Sr. He was
  a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 serving in the European Theater in France and Germany.
   Interment will be in the Stockton Greenwood Cemetery.
  SHUTE  John M.
  John Marshall Shute, 79, of 503 Winsor St., formerly of 136 Willow Ave., died at 12:29 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 11, 2004) in the
  WCA Hospital. A Jamestown-area resident since 1974, he was born May 24, 1925, in Springfield, Mass., the son of Eben M.
  and Anna Crosby Shute. He was a graduate of Springfield High School and Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., with a bachelor's
   degree in chemistry. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II as a corporal in the 3rd Marine
  Division Airwing from Aug. 7, 1943, until his discharge on July 13, 1946. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  SIENKIEWICZ  John M.
  PJ: 6/1/2002: John M. Sienkiewicz, 77, of 4223 Lawson Road, died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday May 30, 2002 in Heritage Green
  Health Care Center.A Jamestown-area resident since 1951, he was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Salamanca, the son of John and
  Mary Lukaniuk Sienkiewicz.  He was a 1946 graduate of Salamanca High School, and a veteran serving in the U.S. Marine
  Corp. during World War II from Sept. 11, 1942 to Nov. 27, 1945. Burial will be in Busti Cemetery.
  SIMMONS  Sheldon L.
  Sheldon L. Simmons, 77 died at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 29, 1999) in WCA Hospital. A Jamestown area resident all of his
  life, he was born Oct. 17, 1922, in Greenhurst, the son of Leon and Lavina NORTON Simmons. He was a veteran serving in
  the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and was a radio operator with the 740th Bomber Squadron-455th Bomb Group
  from Jan. 1943 to Nov. 1945. He was a prisoner of war and received his Purple Heart on Nov. 9, 1999.  Burial will be in
  SIMPSON  James A.
  5/17/2001 -  James A. ‘‘Jim’’ Simpson, 79, of Bird Street, Westfield, died Thursday (May 17, 2001) at home following a brief
  illness. He was born Nov. 28, 1921, in Westfield, the son of James Simpson and Lilly Maine Simpson Carr.  He served in the
  U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II with the 303rd Bombadier Group. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Columbarium, Westfield.
  SIMPSON  John Sr.
  5/9/2001 -  John ‘‘Jack’’ Simpson Jr., 71, of 42 Waverly Ave., died at 9:36 a.m. Wednesday (May 9, 2001) in WCA Hospital. He
  was born July 3, 1929, in Jamestown, the son of John and Dessie Dickerson Simpson. He was a veteran of World War II,
  serving in the U.S. Navy Inurnment will be in Cassadaga Cemetery.
  SIRACUSA  Samuel
  5/7/2003 - Samuel Siracusa, 87, of 919 E. Second St., died at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday (May 6, 2003) in WCA Hospital. He was born
  June 12, 1915, in Auburn, the son of Alfonso and Antonia Arnone. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army
  in Guadalcanal and earned the American Defense and the Asiatic Service Medal. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
  SISCHO  Malcolm W.
  Malcolm W. Sischo, 68, of 150 Prather Ave., formerly of Frewsburg, died at 5:05 a.m. today (Oct. 19, 1992). He was born Feb.
   4, 1924, in Cherry Creek, a son of Claude and Lelia Wightman Sischo. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the 7th
  Armored Tank Destroyers under General Patton in the European Theater. He served two years in the Army with eight months
  in the European Theater. Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.
  SLAGLE  Earl L. Jr.
  5/24/2007 - Earl L. Slagle Jr., 85, of 4434 Bemus-Ellery Road, Bemus Point, died Tuesday (May 22, 2007) in the Buffalo
  Veterans Administration Hospital. He was born Sept. 18, 1921, in Kane, Pa., a son of the late Earl L. and Sara Davidson Slagle
  and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Burial in the Bemus Point Cemetery, Bemus Point, NY.
  SLOJKOWSKI  Leon A. Sr.
  Leon A. ''Sikey'' Slojkowski Sr., 84, of 44 Pennsylvania Ave., died at 11:25 a.m. Monday (August 2, 2004) in WCA Hospital. He
  was born April 27, 1920, in Dunkirk, the son of John and Josephine Slojkowski. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving
  from 1937 to 1940 and then joined the Royal Canadian Army during World War II serving from 1940 to 1946. He was a
  welterweight boxing champion of his Army company during World War II. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
  SMITH  Clifford L. Jr.
  Clifford "Kip" Laverne Smith Jr., 81, of Lakewood, NY. and Dunnellon, Fla., died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the Mayo Clinic in
  Jacksonville.Mr. Smith was born in Mayville, N.Y., on Jan. 22, 1927, to the late Clifford Smith Sr. and Eva (Hall) Smith and
  moved to Dunnellon in 2000. Mr. Smith retired from the St. Petersburg Junior College in 1989 as a maintenance man and served
   in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II.

  Pa., the son of Joseph and Jessie Lewis Smith. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard three

  4/25/2003 - PANAMA - Edward W. Smith, 77, of 43 South St., formerly of Gerry and Sinclairville, died at 8 a.m. Thursday (April
  24, 2003) in his home. He was born May 10, 1925, in Hornell, the son of Harold and Ruth Todd Smith. He was a 1943 graduate
  of Cassadaga Valley Central School and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. Burial in
  Panama Union Cemetery.
  SMITH  Omar H.
  10/21/2003 - BRADENTON, Fla. - Omar H. Smith Jr., 91, died Saturday (Oct. 11, 2003) in Bradenton. He was born June 27,
  1912, in Westfield, the son of Omar and Maude Royce Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II,
  and retired from Miramar Naval Station. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1948 to 1953, and the U.S. Army
  from 1955 to 1957 during the Korean War. During his tour of duty he received the Germany Occupational Medal, the Berlin
  Airlift Device Medal given for humanitarian acts, and the Good Conduct Medal.

  5/17/2002 - Peter J. Smith, 80, of 315 East Sixth St., died at 6:47 p.m. Friday (May 17, 2002) in Hamot Medical Center, Erie. He
  was born Feb. 4, 1922, in St. Cloud, Minn., the son of Murray N. and Lucille Grant Smith and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran
  of World War II, having served in Guadalcanal, New Zealand and New Guinea Burial in Lakeview Cemetery
  SMITH  Ralph J. Sr.
  4/8/2001 -  Ralph J. Smith Sr., 80, formerly of 570 Fairmount Ave., W.E., died at 2:15 a.m. Sunday (April 8, 2001) in Manor Oak
  Life Center. An area resident most of his life, he was born Sept. 11, 1920, in Louisville, Ky., the son of Augustus W. and Alice
  Mary Gauley Smith. He attended Jamestown Public Schools and, while attending school, was employed by the former Wright
  Bakery in Jamestown from 1933 until his enlistment in the service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from May 22,
  1939, to Oct. 17, 1945. While in the service he attended the cooks and bakers school in Camp Haan, Calif., where he took
  courses and was instructed in the duties of a mess sergeant.  Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
  SMITH  Robert C. Jr.
  9/3/2001 -  Robert C. Smith Jr., 75, of 5309 Maple Springs Ellery Road, Bemus Point, died Monday (Sept. 3, 2001) in his home.
  He was born April 26, 1926 in Silver Creek, a son of Robert and Caroline Schumaker Smith Sr. He was a veteran of World War
   II, serving in the U.S. Army. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
  SMITH  Ronald M.
  9/11/2002 - TUCSON, Ariz. - Ronald Mason Smith, 76, of 8949 E. Calle Kuehn, died Thursday (Oct. 24, 2002) in his home.  He
  was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Cassadaga, the son of Mason A. and May Alday Smith. He was a graduate of Sherman Central
  School, and a veteran of World War II serving in the Merchant Marine and the U.S. Army, and retired from the CIA. Burial was
  in East Lawn Palm Cemetery.
  SMITH  Valentine A.
  PJ: June, 1968: Valentine A. Smith, 75, of R.D. 1, Ashville, a retired lieutenant of the Jamestown Police Dept., died at 6:15 a.m.
  Saturday (June 8, 1968). He was born Nov. 30, 1892, in Buffalo, the son of George and Theresa Geiger Smith.  During World
  War II, he served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Navy Seabees.  Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, in Randolph, NY.
  SMITH  Valentine V.
  3/19/2001 - Valentine V. Jaroszynski ''Val'' Smith, 74, formerly of Jamestown and Broadway, Va., died Monday (March 19,
  2001). He was born in Marienville, Pa., the son of Valentine and Lorena Smith. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean
  and Vietnam conflicts, serving in the U.S. Navy for 16 years, and retired in 1969 as a Chief Warrant Officer and a military
  intelligence officer. In 1971, he returned in civilian capacity to intelligence operations. He was given A full military burial at sea.
